The centenary programme featured a specially produced video tracing Sri Lanka’s 100-year journey in community health, from the first Health Unit in 1926 to the nationwide Medical Officer of Health system.
The production blended archival and contemporary material and highlighted achievements in malaria eradication, immunisation, maternal and child health and disease prevention while paying tribute to generations of public health workers.
A commemorative Sinhala–Tamil song, written by Nilar N. Cassim and composed by Navaratne Gamage, added a cultural dimension to the celebrations. It was performed by a group of doctors and reflected themes of unity, service and the collective spirit of the public health workforce.
